Property Management in Lake Point, Utah
Lake Point, Utah, is an unincorporated community in Tooele County that was established in 1854. It is located north of the city of Tooele, on the south shore of the Great Salt Lake, and off of Interstate 80. Originally, it was named E.T. City in honor of Ezra T. Benson, an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1923, it was renamed Lake Point.
Lake Point, Utah Details
The first settlers were Mormons, but after three years of crop failures most of them moved elsewhere. By 1870, the railroad ran from the mining area in Stockton to the south shore of the Great Salt Lake where it connected to the steamboat that went across the lake to Corinne on the north shore. This connection prompted a developer named Jeter Clinton to try to create a recreation area called “Clinton Beach.” He built a temporary building, called Lake House, providing showers and refreshments for tourists. This building was quickly replaced by a hotel, but there were few customers and the steamboat service stopped in 1872. In 1892, the Buffalo Park Land Company bought the property, mapped streets, landscaped, built cabins, and added buffalo. This idea also failed, and the buffalo were sent to Antelope Island.
